Almsgiving & Merits

Almsgiving, also known as the ritual morning food donation to the Monks, is a deeply rooted custom practiced in Theravada Buddhist countries. This tradition serves the purpose of sustaining the monastic community and strengthening the bonds between laypeople and the Monks.

At our temple in West Linn, we recognize that the residential community is not in close proximity to facilitate the alms round for our Monks. However, as laypersons, we can still actively contribute by visiting the temple and engaging in the act of donating food. By doing so, we not only support the monastic community but also establish a meaningful connection with our revered Monks. In gratitude for your generosity, the Monks will recite their blessings, thereby generating merits for your spiritual journey.
